I can remember a bigger percentage of the names of cars I have owned than the people I have slept with. I have been wrestling with putting this "list" together for some time. It was a pretty good exercise and brought back alot of memories (and a few of those *other* names I had forgotten). Do you have a list? Show me and make me feel better about my addiction that is pushing over 70 80 cars and not slowing. I think I got most of them and in pretty chronological order.
Now looking back the 2 really do have a parallel. Most of them look pretty good, with a couple of spectacular features, with a couple of 10's thrown in. Hmmm...

Either you change cars like I change socks, or you're very old.
How many of those cars were/are owned simultaneously? I mean, you don't seem like a one-car kind of guy.

I am 35, and have owned up to 8 at a time. Rarely have I had less than 4. Sometimes I will buy one, drive it for a month, and someone will offer me too much money to refuse

I'm seriously beginning to think I am doing it wrong as there are a lot of cars on your list I would have liked to own for a short time just to say I drove them, and my list is very short.

We're about the same age, then. I have a friend who constantly buys cars, but can't seem to let go of them. A bit of a car nut, a bit of a collector, a bit of a hoarder. I think we once counted 18 cars that he owned or co-owned with his brother and father. This did not include the other cars that his brother and father owned independently.
The collection started to shrink a bit when he bought a house and had to make mortgage payments and do home repairs.

That's quite a list. What country are you in? My list is growing and has long outpaced the ladies in my life. I started in the 4x4 realm because Texas and I can't live without a truck, but I have been able to get quite a bit of diversity lately.

Yeah, those cars were fantastic. I really wish I never got rid of them. Sadly, they fell victim to my need for funds to pay for my wedding and a down payment on a house a few years back. One of these days I will have the funds/time to get another classic. I actually think that the first project I take on will be another '65 Skylark. It was my first car, so I have a huge soft spot for it. This time around I am hoping to get a GS with a 4-speed.

good old USA.
Been looking for a good Ramcharger from somewhere where rust doesn't exist.
BTW Phaeton is on my hit list, v8? Holding up ok?

So, I'm guessing none of these were in new/like new condition. Not saying they were not enjoyable in any way.
![]() 09/25/2013 at 11:08 |

nope, some real gems, some bought as light resto projects, some just as rats, some I had to put back together. I really wanted to hit this up with more info and pictures that I had, but it would have been an epic read
![]() 09/25/2013 at 11:12 |
|
You must have had to scour the country for many of those.
I know who has my old Ramcharger, and one day I plan on getting it back when the wife isn't looking. I love the Phaeton. 105,000 miles and still going strong. Yes a V8. Be prepared for expensive maintenance costs, but I still consider it a reliable car, and oh so comfortable.
![]() 09/25/2013 at 11:16 |

I have done all of my own work after the last GTV6, and I have VAG software, so I am not scared. The price point is getting very attractive on those.
I used to have a knack for finding cars locally, and never had the fear of knocking on doors to find out who owned what. I have gotten used to taking a flight here or there to pick something up.
Go get that Ramcharger...you cant find a decent one for sale north of CT these days

1966 or 67 Corolla
1967 Mercedes 280 S

1988 Mazda 323 GTX
1992 Jetta GLi- An expensive nightmare.
1990 Mazda 323

Sadly, it went from just that one to a 1961 C550 (stupid short wheel base, 312 with a 5-spd.), and then a 1960 C-850 cab and chassis, (401, 5&2 spd., air brakes). the 63 is the nicest of them all, has a 534 and an Allison.

Yeah my s'coupe, got rid of it only cause it had almost 200 000 kms on it, with a Civic that said 140 000 on the speedo, but actually had over 300 000. The prick changed the speedo, and never said anything about it, and when I brought his ass in court, he claimed he forgot to mention that...
I don't know what my fixation of 91's was about, guess my wallet was doing the thinking for me!
I only onwed one car at a time, except for my sx4 and jeep, still have both.
